Gene was born and raised in the Valparaiso Indiana area.  He holds a Bachelor’s degree in business from Grace College and also met his wife, Lisa, while at Grace.  They have 2 children, Tara and Grant. 

The majority of Gene’s career has been in the field of mortgage lending.  After 14 years at First National Bank, Valparaiso, Gene left his Sr. Loan Officer Position in 2003 to start a local branch office for Irwin Mortgage.  He managed that office for Irwin until 2006 when he converted it into his own business, Hamstra Mortgage Professionals.  He still operates Hamstra Mortgage Professionals to date.  Gene joined Compass early in 2014 when he completed his series 65.

Gene has always striven to obtain client loyalty through the high level of integrity and honesty in the way that he conducts business.  He is passionate about the needs of his clients and providing to them top level service. 

   

Gene is actively involved in his local church (First Baptist, Kouts).  He enjoys a variety of athletics and supports a number of athletic programs in the local schools and in the Kouts community where he and his family reside.

 Stocks fell for the week as investors grappled with higher bond yields, political risks around the globe, trade tensions and higher energy prices. The real estate and utilities sectors, which tend to be bond proxies due to their high dividend yields, lost over 2% for the week. By contrast, the materials and energy sectors posted the biggest gains as investors are starting to price in higher inflation expectations. In economic news, retail sales rose 0.3% in April, in-line with forecasts, as higher paychecks from tax-cuts offset rising fuel costs. In stock news, both Walmart Inc.

 Treasury prices dropped moderately over the course of the week on strong economic data and speculation that both the Federal Reserve and European Central Bank may raise interest rates more quickly than previously expected. On Tuesday, April Advance Retail Sales were solid while March sales figures were revised to 0.8%, and May Empire Manufacturing was higher than expected, causing a risk-on environment which led to a significant drop in Treasury prices. It was also reported on Tuesday that the U.S.
